Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Community Infrastructure in Surrey
(firmenpresse) - SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/03/13 -- Today, Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the water disinfection systems at four City of Surrey aquatic facilities under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities across Canada," said MP Grewal. "By making these investments in local infrastructure, we are helping boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians."
The Harper Government's investment of $202,485 upgraded the North Surrey Indoor Pool, South Surrey Indoor Pool, Newton Wave Pool and Surrey Sport and Leisure Pool with new ventilation and modern liquid chlorine water disinfection systems. These improvements ensure that these facilities can maintain exceptional safety standards and continue to offer a place where the community can enjoy a high quality of life.
"Our recreation centres are important community assets, so we are pleased to partner with the federal government to upgrade and modernize four of our aquatic centres," says Mayor Dianne Watts. She adds, the City of Surrey contributed an additional $202,485 to the project.
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
