BMO Harris Bank, Chicago Blackhawks Recognize Spathies and McDonnell as Youth Hockey Coach and Player of the Month

Dave Casper, EVP and Head of Commercial Banking at BMO Harris Bank, and Annie Camins, Director of Youth Hockey, Chicago Blackhawks, presented the awards to Spathies and McDonnell during the on-ice ceremony at the March 29 Blackhawks game.
For the past five years, BMO Harris Bank and the Chicago Blackhawks have teamed up to honor one youth hockey coach and youth hockey player each month for their outstanding achievements both on the ice and in their communities. Candidates are nominated by teammates, coaches, friends or family members through the Blackhawks' website and are judged by an amateur hockey committee.
Player of the month Brooklyn Spathies plays travel hockey for the Chicago Bruins Mite team. After recent surgery on her spinal cord, Spathies fought to get back to playing on the ice. She currently volunteers for the Lupus Foundation of Illinois where she received the Volunteer of the Year award for all her hard work and passion for the organization. As a straight-A student at Arbor View Elementary, she is a National Language Arts Contestant and participates in the National Wordmasters Competition.
Coach of the month Marty McDonnell coaches the Squirt 3 Team for the St. Jude Knights Hockey Club. He's been coaching for the past 17 years with the Knights as well as St. Rita High School. Well-known for instilling in his players the importance of giving back to the community, this season McDonnell's team taped their hockey sticks pink and wore t-shirts to support breast cancer. They participated in a toy drive for Comer's Children's Hospital, raised awareness for autism, honored a local injured police officer and wore helmet stickers in memory of the fallen after the Sandy Hook tragedy.
