Recently, Dr. Rioseco's practice acquired the ORTHOPHOS XG 3D panoramic x-ray, which simultaneously allows for improved accuracy and results for dental implant procedures and increased patient comfort during the planning stages.
With the acquisition of the ORTHOPHOS XG 3D x-ray, Dr. Rioseco is able to plan a patient's crown with the CEREC® machine and import the file directly into ORTHOPHOS XG 3D's cone beam image of the patient's jaw. Using this combination of technologies, Dr. Rioseco is able to see where the crown should eventually be located and therefore where the needs to be placed.
Because these technologies allow Dr. Rioseco to know the location of the exact center, height, and shape of the before the crown is even made, he can more accurately plan the placement and angulation of the dental implant. In addition to allowing a very high level of communication between Dr. Rioseco and the implant surgeon, this level of planning prevents future injuries to vital structures such as the sinus or the nerves and avoids bone perforation. This increased communication between the implant surgeon and Dr. Rioseco results in implants that are never too close to a patient's other teeth to allow the room necessary for the fitting of the crowns.
Other benefits for Dr. Rioseco's patients include reduced radiation compared to iCat images or other cone-beam technology currently being used. Also, the ORTHOPHOS XG 3D x-ray allows Dr. Rioseco to use external bitewings without the need for patients to hold a device in their mouths. For patients who have experienced discomfort or gagging with conventional x-rays or impressions, this problem is eliminated.
Since the implants are now placed with a much higher degree of accuracy, Dr. Rioseco says the restoration process is much easier when the crown is made and fitted later on. These technologies simplify the dental implant process for the patient, as each patient's crowns can be made without the need for any supplementary images or physical impressions.
