Activity at Hekla Volcano in Iceland Creates Interest via Mila Webcam
(firmenpresse) - REYKJAVIK, ICELAND -- (Marketwire) -- 03/26/13 -- Increased seismic activity around the Hekla volcano in Iceland has created interest amongst fans of the country via the live streaming webcam, livefromiceland.is.
Geologists at the Icelandic Meteorological Office have experienced tremors over the past two weeks, a frequency which has never been matched since Hekla's previous eruption in 2000. However, no magma movement has been measured.
Currently, geologists are closely monitoring the volcano as eruptions at Hekla usually happen with very little warning, and the mountain itself is a popular hike amongst locals and tourists alike. It must be noted that it is also quite likely that no eruption will be taking place in the near future.
Despite the current warnings, the effects of Hekla will be extremely minor compared to those of Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010 -- noted as being an active tourist attraction as opposed to anything destructive.
Internet users can monitor the activity around the volcano themselves with a live webcam of Hekla here:
