Singer-Songwriter Kevin Devine Begins Crafting Seventh and Eighth Studio Albums With a Little Help From His Friends
Fans Help Brooklyn-Based Artist Reach 12th Largest Music-Based Kickstarter Campaign

Well, if you're Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kevin Devine (Bad Books, Kevin Devine and the Godd*** Band) you go straight to work in an effort to give fans what they paid for... literally. Having been inspired earlier this year by the one constant throughout his career, his fans, Devine wanted to create two new albums without the involvement of a record label, thus the Kickstarter campaign was launched.
During the campaign, Devine's fans bypassed the original goal and created an astounding budget of $114,805 to fund and promote what will be his seventh and eighth studio albums, as well as a subsequent tour. Currently, this campaign stands as the 12th largest music project funded through Kickstarter.
The use of online funding platform Kickstarter to raise money for independent artists gives them a chance to have more control over the recording, promoting and distribution process of releasing a new album and the fans are the ones that truly benefit. For Devine, keeping the campaign fresh and exciting with unique fan experiences led to a 229% funding success rate -- hitting his goal within nine hours of going live. Fans supported with pledges that offered incentives from receiving a digital download of the records to having Devine play a mini show in a fan's living room. With the majority of the packages including either a digital, physical or vinyl copy of each album, Devine has not only successfully promoted the future releases to eager fans, but has pre-sold thousands of copies of each record -- something not possible with a traditional record label system for an artist like Devine.
"I've worked with a major label, indie labels and everything in between and I felt that now was the time in what has been an amazingly rewarding career to try another route and really connect on a new level with my passionate, supportive fans," said Devine.
Devine is currently in Los Angeles working on the seventh album, a solo effort produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck, Booker T. Washington), and will return to New York this Spring to begin the eighth release, a full band album from Kevin Devine and the Godd*** Band, produced by long time friend and collaborator Jesse Lacey of the band Brand New. Both releases are unnamed at this time and are due this October. Kevin Devine recently celebrated his 10 year anniversary as a musician with a special performance at New York's Webster Hall and reissued his third album (2005) in 2012.
