(firmenpresse) - PANAMA CITY -- (Marketwire) -- 03/14/13 -- The , Marta Martinelli de Linares, opened the first education center in her country for people with different abilities in May 2012, Centro Ann Sullivan de Panama (CASPAN). The center was built after the model established by Dr. Liliana Mayo, Ph.D., who founded the Centro Ann Sullivan del Peru (CASP) in 1979 with great success. The center provides development of practices and successful experiences that help promote the success of full inclusion into society for people with different abilities including .

Dr. Joshua Weinstein, Founder & CEO of , visited the newly established CASPAN center as a guest of the First Lady. Dr. Weinstein toured the beautiful campus and was introduced to some of the center's practices, staff and children. In their visit, they discussed a planned ICare4Autism Pediatrics and Workshop in Panama for April. This conference and workshop will be geared toward educating pediatricians and healthcare professionals in Panama on early detection, diagnosis and treatment for children with autism. Early identification is so important because research indicates the most critical development period for children is between birth and age 3. Once a diagnosis in autism is made, possibilities for improvement in quality of life increase dramatically. The importance of intensive early intervention for young children across the autism spectrum, including those labeled with autism, Asperger's syndrome, and other pervasive developmental disorders is paramount. While these children share a common diagnostic label, each has individual needs. Because of the individual differences among these children, an individualized approach that addresses the core deficits of autism spectrum disorders (e.g., communication, social, sensory, academic difficulties) is required and it must match each family's preferences and needs.

offered to help provide staff training and workshops at their center in order to elevate their level of expertise to be able to address the individual needs of the children there. ICare4Autism and the Republic of Panama are continuing their global awareness and collaboration. Working together continuously will lead to breakthroughs in research and care. ICare4Autism and the Republic of Panama have similar goals. They both want to create opportunities and growth for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Working together will help them realize that goal.
