PRSA-NY and PRSSA NYU Chapter to Host Spring Career Forum
PRSA Foundation and Council of Public Relations Firms Join to Place Special Emphasis on Attracting Diverse Students
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 03/13/13 -- The Public Relations Society of America's New York Chapter (PRSA-NY) and the Public Relations Student Society of America's NYU Chapter (PRSSA NYU) today jointly announced an upcoming PR Career Forum to be held on Tuesday, April 2 at New York University's (NYU) Kimmel Center.
Exhibitor registrations for prospective employers (corporations, PR agencies and others) will be accepted through March 28 at . More than 20 employers are expected to participate, offering jobs and internships. Industry and human resource experts will offer perspectives and lunch will be provided.
Interested students can register at ; a nominal $10 admission fee includes access to the entire event as well as lunch. The 2013 PR Career Forum is hosted entirely by volunteers from PRSA-NY's New Professionals Committee and PRSSA NYU chapter.
The mission of the PR Career Forum is to attract top talent to the PR profession and help to introduce, develop and prepare students and young professionals for a career in public relations. The event is open to all students. PRSA-NY has hosted this event for the past several years, however for the 2013 Career Forum, the PRSA-NY chapter has placed a special emphasis on attracting diverse talent in support of its 2013 Diversity initiative.
As a result of the new emphasis, the PRSA Foundation and the Council on Public Relations Firms have joined the event with a unified mission of attracting diverse talent into the public relations profession. The Foundation's support efforts are focused on attracting ethnic and racial minorities to the event and to reduce the cost to all students.
With a shared mission to bring diversity to the profession, we are pleased the PRSA Foundation and Council of Public Relations Firms have joined PRSA-NY in this initiative. These young professionals and students, who have already selected public relations as their profession, are passionate about changing the face of the profession -- and they will," said Lea-Ann Germinder, APR Fellow PRSA and president, PRSA-NY.
The Foundation supports programs that attract a diverse range of ambitious and promising students to public relations and develops their capacity to bring the PR perspective to the organizations they serve and to society. "We hope this partnership with the PRSA-NY chapter can be replicated across the United States. This is a grassroots effort to bring diverse students into the mainstream of public relations career forums," said Lou Capozzi, president of the PRSA Foundation.
The Council of Public Relations Firms is equally committed to bringing diverse candidates to its member organizations. Its annual Diversity Distinction Awards in conjunction with industry-publication PRWeek, recognize public relations firms, corporations and individual professionals that champion diversity. The Council has recently produced new materials that will be featured at the Career Forum. Several of its member firms are expected to exhibit.
