LaViv™ (azficel-T) is an innovative therapy that utilizes the patient's own collagen-producing cells to reduce the appearance of facial lines.
Dr. Silverberg has played an integral role in the evolution and testing of ™. Tested in Europe and the U.S where the product's effectiveness and safety were established, she served as a member of the investigative team for its clinical trials. The resulting data has taken ten years to collect and Dr. Silverberg and her team members recently celebrated the FDA's approval for LaViv™. According to Dr. Silverberg, the biggest advantage of LaViv™ cell therapy is that the process uses the patient's own cells rather than a synthetic or foreign agent. LaViv™ is a much more natural option than most other wrinkle treatments. In a process developed by Fibrocell Sciences, LaViv™ reproduces the patient's own natural collagen-producing cells (also called fibroblasts) in a certified laboratory and then injects the new cells into the treatment area. These cells are grown from a small sample of tissue taken from behind the patient's ear.
After the patient's initial visit, it takes about 6-8 weeks for the new cells to reproduce and be returned to the doctor's office. When the patient returns for the second visit, Dr. Silverberg injects the cells into the patient using a clinically proven sterile method. In addition, Fibrocell Sciences is able to store any unused cells for future treatments.
According to the clinical data, LaViv™ patients experience long-lasting results from the procedure. Some of the trial patients who participated in LaViv™ studies 10 years ago are still experiencing positive results.
