Minister Clement Talks Red Tape With Oakville Business Leaders
(firmenpresse) - OAKVILLE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/01/13 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, today highlighted the Government of Canada's ambitious plans to cut red tape and support jobs and growth in an address to the Oakville Chamber of Commerce.
"Our Government's top priorities are jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for Canadians," said Minister Clement. "We are focused on supporting Canadian competitiveness and freeing business to do what it does best: innovate, invest, grow, and create jobs."
To help meet these goals, the Government unveiled its last October-one of the most ambitious red tape-cutting exercises in the world today. As part of the Plan, the Government announced in January that will generate about $10 million in annual savings for Canadian businesses.
"These initiatives are excellent examples of how our Government's Red Tape Reduction Action Plan is translating into real savings for Canadian businesses," said Minister Clement. "But this is only the beginning. In the coming months, our Government will announce more initiatives to cut red tape, while protecting the health and safety of Canadians."
The Action Plan introduces systemic reforms to the federal regulatory system to cap the size and cost of red tape and improve customer service. The Action Plan includes 90 department-specific changes to eliminate unnecessary paperwork and introduce time-saving measures, such as single windows and electronic submissions.
The Government of Canada, which has instituted significant ongoing annual savings through a strategic review of government operations, also continues to look for ways to support jobs and growth, while returning to balanced budgets before the end of this Parliament.
"Prudent public finances are the solid foundation we need to build a strong economy," said Minister Clement. "Canada is recognized internationally as one of the best places in the world to do business and invest, and we are working hard to make sure we continue to create the conditions where businesses can succeed."
"As outlined by the Prime Minister, our Government remains focused on four priorities that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and their personal financial security," concluded Minister Clement.
