Community Savings Credit Union: Can The Middle-Class Survive in B.C.?

ID: 1202165

(firmenpresse) - SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/28/13 -- A recent report from Community Savings Credit Union highlights the stresses and challenges that the average middle-class family in British Columbia is facing.

By exploring research conducted on the social and economic climate, Community Savings Credit Union was able to present an unsettling picture of the struggles faced by the working class which forms the majority of its membership.

"Middle income families are feeling squeezed; their incomes are sustained only by working harder," said Seth Klein, B.C. Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. "To ease their situation, we need good public policy that sees us meet more of our needs together."

The report covers such topics as the increasing cost of basic necessities, the stagnation of wages, taxation inequality, and rising consumer debt levels within the province.

"We began this project from a genuine place of concern," said Doug Eveneshen, President & CEO of Community Savings. "There's a lot of coverage on the lack of affordable housing but the bigger picture for a lot of people is that basic living is now an affordability issue. By being realistic and asking difficult questions, this report will hopefully open a dialogue for change."
