Minister Oliver Welcomes a Report Confirming that Bitumen is No More Corrosive than Comparable Heavy Crudes
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/25/13 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today issued the following statement regarding the Penspen Integrity State of the Art Report on Dilbit Corrosivity commissioned by the Canadian Energy Pipelines Association.
"We welcome the findings of this report on pipeline corrosivity, which concludes that diluted bitumen and synthetic crude oil are no more corrosive than comparable heavy crudes in transmission pipeline environments. These findings are in line with extensive scientific research already conducted by Natural Resources Canada.
"This independent study by an internationally recognized organization builds on extensive research and adds to a significant, already existing body of evidence that Canadian bitumen is no more corrosive.
"Our Government has said before that the development of Canada's natural resources will not proceed unless it is safe and responsible. Pipelines are a safe and efficient method of transporting large volumes of crude oil and petroleum products.
"The Harper Government will continue to develop Canada's natural resources in order to create jobs and economic growth, while protecting the environment."
