Minister Raitt Commends Agreement Between the Maritime Employers Association and the Syndicat des debardeurs at the Port of Montreal
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/22/13 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, commended the Maritime Employers Association and the Syndicat des debardeurs, CUPE Local 375 on ratifying a new six-year collective agreement.
"I am pleased that the Maritime Employers Association and the Syndicat des debardeurs Local 375 worked closely together to successfully negotiate a collective agreement that will enable long-term labour stability and economic growth at the Port of Montreal," said Minister Raitt. The Maritime Employers Association is a non-profit organization representing member companies, including ship owners, operators and agents of vessels, stevedoring contractors and terminal operators involved in shipping at the ports of Montreal, Trois-Rivieres/Becancour, Hamilton and Toronto. The Syndicat des debardeurs, CUPE Local 375 represents a unit of approximately 850 longshoremen working at the Port of Montreal whose new collective agreement is in effect until December 31, 2018.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, which provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the Canada Labour Code.
