(firmenpresse) - PARKSVILLE, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/19/13 -- Today, Dr. James Lunney, Member of Parliament for Nanaimo-Alberni, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Oceanside Place Arena under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Oceanside Place is used by thousands of area residents, from Junior B hockey's Oceanside Generals through minor hockey to old-timers, fans, schools, recreational skating and community events," said MP Lunney. "I am pleased that our Government is investing in improvements to the accessibility and safety of this valued community asset while creating new economic opportunities."

The Harper Government's investment of $61,950 in federal funding will enhances the services provided by the Oceanside Place Arena by replacing the high bay lighting fixtures. These renovations will improve the safety and accessibility of the facility.

"Once these new fixtures are installed, the RDN will see an energy savings of close to $13,000 per year at this facility, with a payback period of only 11 years," said RDN Chairperson Joe Stanhope. "On behalf of the community and the RDN Board of Directors, I would like to thank the Government of Canada for providing us with the funding needed for these important upgrades."

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure.
