(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 02/15/13 -- Hertfordshire teacher James Cowan is on track to break the world record of rowing across the Atlantic in less than 30 days with his team of eight, thanks to financial backing from sustainable electricity provider Green Energy UK.

James, who is joined by team mates Benno Rawlinson, Calum McNicol, Jan Oner, Leven Brown, Tim Spiteri, Livar Nysted and Peter Fleck, is a keen endurance athlete, having completed the London and Shanghai Marathons, Marathon des Sables (2nd British finisher), Jungle Marathon, Verdon Ultra, half and full Ironman triathlons as well as 10km swims. To complete the challenge, the team members will conduct gruelling two-hour-on, two-hour-off rowing cycles.

Doug Stewart, CEO at Green Energy UK, says: "We're proud and very excited to be involved with this remarkable challenge. The rowing team is utilising natural power to achieve its aims, which is very much in line with our business model of from natural and sustainable sources! As James is local to us, we wanted to show our support to him and the rest of the team. The challenge is now over half way completed and the guys are doing well in this mentally and physically exhausting feat. The team are keeping up morale by skinny dipping and betting between each other on rugby games with chocolate!

"We are glued to our laptops following the teams' progress via the website and Twitter feed."

A supplier of electricity from 100 per cent sustainable sources, Green Energy UK supports sporting efforts and challenges that are sustainable and carbon free.

Doug continues: "The sponsorship strengthens our commitment to helping to raise the profile of sport in general and being active. We also actually think it's quite an interesting observation that the 'vehicle' in this sport is made from carbon, yet doesn't generate any!"
