Symposium on the Future of Huntsville as a Healthy, Livable and Sustainable Community Scheduled

(firmenpresse) - February 12, 2013 (Huntsville, AL) – The Department of Community and Regional Planning (DCRP) and The Tennessee Valley Consortium for Sustainable Communities (TVRCSC) announce the upcoming 27th Annual Symposium on the Future of the City to be held Friday, February 22, 2013 from 8:30 - 12:30 p.m. at the J.I. Dawson Auditorium at Alabama A&M University.

The Symposium is entitled “Healthy, Livable and Sustainable Communities within the Huntsville Metro Region: We Have Apps for That!” The keynote speaker will be Dr. Alice Ammerman, Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Professor, Department of Nutrition at the School of Public Health and Medicine at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Stated goals of the Symposium include continuing dialogue on healthy living, community wellbeing and food security, establishing profile indicators and benchmarks for creating sustainable and healthy communities, and facilitating networking and interaction among stakeholders, particularly the youth, using application software.

“Through the 27th Annual Future of the City Symposium, AAMU is helping Huntsville continue the dialogue, vision and planning for a healthy, livable and sustainable city. I am certain that this approach is crucial to our community's continued economic success in the years to come and to improving its high scoring quality-of-life indicators,” said Robin Cox of Huntsville.
