Sentence in R. v. Delisle

(firmenpresse) - HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/08/13 -- Jeffrey Paul Delisle was sentenced today in Nova Scotia Provincial Court to 20 years in prison for communicating safeguarded information contrary to section 16(1) of the Security of Information Act. He was fined $111,817, which corresponds to the amounts he received for his crimes.

He was also sentenced to 9 years in prison for attempting to communicate safeguarded information, also contrary to section 16(1) of the Act, and 5 years for breach of trust, contrary to section 122 of the Criminal Code. All three sentences will be served concurrently.

Jeffrey Paul Delisle, 41, pleaded guilty on October 10, 2012 to all three offences. He is the first person to be charged under Canada's Security of Information Act. He has been in custody since his arrest on January 13, 2012.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada is responsible for prosecuting offences under federal jurisdiction in a manner that is free of any improper influence and that respects the public interest. The PPSC is also responsible for providing prosecution-related advice to law enforcement agencies across Canada.
