ID: 1193001

(firmenpresse) - STRATHROY, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/01/13 -- The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, today met with business representatives in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex to discuss building a stronger economy and helping Canada prosper over the long term. Minister Clement was accompanied by Bev Shipley, Member of Parliament for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

"Business leaders in Strathroy and Wallaceburg provided valuable input to what businesses need to not only survive, but thrive," said Minister Clement. "Our Government is listening. We will continue to keep taxes low, cut red tape and open new markets for Canadian exports."

The economic consultation is part of a process being carried out across the country, as Canadians are asked what concrete actions can be taken to strengthen our economy in the face of global economic uncertainty, solidify our economic recovery, and position Canada to compete and prosper over the long term.

"Our Government has a clear record of listening to and consulting with Canadians. I am delighted to have had Minister Clement join me for these sessions," said MP Bev Shipley. "These consultations are an important part of the process to build on our success by finding more ways to strengthen Canada's economy."

"Hosting Mr. Clement in Strathroy was a great opportunity for our Chamber members to interact with the minister in person," said Shannon Churchill, General Manager of the Strathroy & District Chamber of Commerce. "Members of the Strathroy Chamber are also part of the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce. Collectively, these organizations can facilitate positive change with all levels of government, and this meeting is just another example of that."

To ensure that all Canadians can participate in the process, the Government of Canada has also launched an online consultation through the federal Finance Department website. Those interested in participating can learn more at .
