Ontario Architect Salter Pilon Helps Celebrate the Groundbreaking for the Georgian Bay General Hospital Emergency Department Expansion
(firmenpresse) - MIDLAND, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 01/16/13 -- Salter Pilon Architecture Inc., a leading , is pleased to announce its participation in the groundbreaking for the expansion of the Emergency Department at the Georgian Bay General Hospital. Years of fundraising and community support were rewarded in December 2012 with final approval from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to proceed with phase one of the build. The groundbreaking ceremony on December 13, 2012 was well received and attended by numerous members of the community, hospital staff, the project team and dignitaries from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Town of Midland and Simcoe County.
The current emergency department saw over 45,000 patients last year in a space designed in 1976 to accommodate 18,000 patients. Despite the spatial challenges, the department has dropped wait-times in recent years with innovations such as a "see & treat" area, dedicated staff and patient care. The design of the much-anticipated expansion supports these and future operational models, while increasing both privacy and security for patients. The Town of Midland, area residents and the staff at GBGH are well deserving of the benefits this project will bring.
This project by Salter Pilon will add more than 6,000 square feet to the department in phase one, including a new patient and visitor entrance, ambulance entry point, triage area, trauma room, decontamination room and treatment rooms. The design has been a collaborative effort through intensive user meetings with hospital staff and the design team with patients in mind to have an in depth understanding and provide an Emergency Department, which functions with the highest level of patient care and staff conditions. Design approaches have taken into consideration: infection control and prevention, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards and current healthcare technologies.
