Texas Disposal Systems Launches Bag-the-Bag Program in Georgetown

ID: 1186667

(firmenpresse) - AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/14/13 -- Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) is well underway with its first residential single-stream contract that includes its 'Bag-the-Bag' program, which launched in 2012 in the City of Georgetown.

The new program allows TDS to collect both single-use plastic bags and plastic film -- commonly seen as newspaper bags, dry cleaning bags, shrink wrap, Ziploc style bags, etc. Residents can stuff large quantities of these plastic films in a special stuffer bag that can be placed in the curbside recycling cart. Currently the City of Austin does not offer any of these items in its curbside collection and recycling program.

"Bag-the-Bag gives a recycling option for all types of plastic film, including single use bags and would allow business to proceed as usual," says TDS marketing director Jennifer Gregory. "Texas Disposal Systems is invested in making program participation information accessible as other municipal customers are expressing interest in adding our program to their current curbside recycling program."

Austin's bag ban -- one of the broadest bag bans in the country -- goes into effect at all retail checkout counters starting in March 2013. It was met with opposition as both local businesses and residents urged the city to pursue a program to allow them to put plastic bags in their curbside recycling carts.

Adds Gregory: "Texas Disposal Systems is committed to finding new items to be added to the recycling stream. We are proud to launch the smart alternative: to recycle and re-use and keep plastic films out of landfills. Look to our Green School Solutions program, which teaches those at a young age about reclaiming resources, recycling them, and repurposing."

Texas Disposal Systems is the largest independently-owned solid waste collection and recycling company in Central Texas and serves customers in San Antonio, Georgetown, San Angelo and Alpine. For more information, please visit or contact 800-375-8375.
