Harper Government Strengthening Community Infrastructure Across the Country
(firmenpresse) - GARDEN BAY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/08/13 -- Across the country, community centres, cultural centres, hockey rinks, swimming pools, and other community projects will soon be improved thanks to support from the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
As part of the Government's Economic Action Plan 2012, John Weston, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society's Sarah Wray Heritage Hall project under the Fund.
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said MP Weston. "By improving facilities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians."
Federal funding of $49,551 will support the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society's Sarah Wray Heritage Hall project. The project will upgrade the main hall, washrooms, kitchen and multi-purpose room; rehabilitate the building's foundation; construct a new back porch and wheelchair ramp; replace water, sewage and heating systems; and repair the roof. Ultimately, this project will improve the accessibility and safety of the facility, while increasing its longevity.
"The volunteers working to restore the one-room school house today are imitating-and honouring-the volunteers who erected the building for the sake of Pender Harbour families in 1930," said Elaine Park, President of the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society. "Thanks to the federal government`s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, a unique piece of Pender Harbour heritage will be preserved and the harbour will gain a new community centre."
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
