Rhinoplasty Surgeon in Dallas on Ideal Candidate for Nose Reshaping
(firmenpresse) - DALLAS, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/08/13 -- According to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), rhinoplasty, or nose job surgery, is the second most popular cosmetic procedure, with over 243,000 performed in the past year. Dr. Spencer Cochran of the Gunter Center for Aesthetics and Cosmetic Surgery in Dallas says patients considering rhinoplasty are most commonly concerned with a symmetrical appearance and improved breathing. While rhinoplasty remains one of the most popular procedures, Dr. Cochran says determining which patients are right for treatment is an essential step in ensuring patients achieve the aesthetic appearance and function they want.
Having dedicated the entire practice to performing rhinoplasty and, Dr. Cochran says he sees a wide range of patients with a diverse assortment of concerns regarding their nose. One group of potential candidates for rhinoplasty are those who wish to correct problems that arose from a previous surgery or resolve problems that may not have been adequately addressed. While nose surgery is typically associated with an alteration or enhancement of one's appearance, he says is often performed to correct nasal obstruction and facilitate breathing. Dr. Cochran adds that candidacy and effectiveness are addressed in the initial patient consultation, at which time he develops a treatment plan based on a patient's goals. Regardless of expectations, he stresses the importance of choosing a surgeon experienced in the procedure.
"Our practice is limited exclusively to rhinoplasty," says Dr. Cochran. "Dr. Gunter and I are two of only a handful of surgeons across the country who are dedicated completely to rhinoplasty and rhinoplasty related procedures. Patients come to our practice expressing concerns about the appearance of their nose. They want to improve the way their nose looks and they want to know that it is in balance with the rest of their facial features."
Because each patient has different goals and a unique facial structure, the says in order to be an ideal candidate for a rhinoplasty procedure, patients should have a specific concern with their nose and also a realistic expectation about how they want their nose to look. Through a detailed examination and advanced 3D imaging technology, Dr. Cochran says the doctor-patient consultation is designed to help set achievable goals for surgery and get a better sense of the patient's ideal appearance.
"Oftentimes patients are unhappy with their nose, but they aren't sure why," he says. "Our goal during the consultation is to determine what about the nose is unattractive. Then, using the 3D images, we set goals for the surgery with the imager. This lets the patient see a simulation of what I am trying to achieve. It also provides me with a road map for surgery."
Dr. Cochran says choosing an experienced and board-certified surgeon dedicated to nose reshaping is crucial to receiving safe and effective results. He urges patients to research their surgeon and practice extensively before making a decision so as to ensure they set realistic expectations, and know their procedure will be performed with the highest standards of quality and precision.
A graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, completed advanced training in nasal surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he was selected as Chief Resident of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and where he currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a member of the Rhinoplasty Society, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Medical Association, and several other professional organizations.
