Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Fort St. John's Community Infrastructure

JOHN, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/03/13 -- Today, Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George - Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for improvements to the cross country trails at Beatton Provincial Park under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is continuing to support communities across Canada by investing in projects that improve community infrastructure," said MP Zimmer. "This project will create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our community."
Federal funding of $29,841 will allow the Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club Society to improve the cross country trails at Beatton Provincial Park. The project will mulch and clear the trails, install culverts, remediate the existing crossing and improve the grading of the trails. Ultimately, this project will improve the safety, access and variety of the cross country trails by changing the design and grades of the existing trails, which have not been updated for 30 years.
"The Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club is very pleased to receive the support from the Federal Government for this worthwhile project," said Eliza Stanford, President, Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club Society. "A well planned and developed cross country ski trail facility is an essential part of any northern community and by creating a more diversified trail layout, we will be able to service an even greater skier population."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
