(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 12/21/12 -- Gregory L. Moore, Editor of the , has been named the by the for leading coverage of the .

"I am very pleased to receive this recognition. Our coverage of the tragic Aurora shooting is a credit to The Post and its capacity and the talent of our staff that almost instinctively swung into action," said Mr. Moore.

The Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year Award was established in 1984 to recognize significant achievements that enhance the quality of journalism in the United States. The award is named in honor of Benjamin C. Bradlee who served as Executive Editor of The Washington Post from 1968 to 1991.

"The Denver Post has emerged as a singular force for news coverage in Colorado. Under Moore's leadership, the staff rolled from one horrific story -- wildfires that destroyed hundreds of homes and forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people -- to yet another horrendous breaking news story, the deadly shootings at a suburban movie theater. Moore is an inspiring newsroom leader widely admired throughout the industry," stated the National Press Foundation's Selection Committee.

Committee members include Sandy Johnson, former Washington Bureau Chief for the Associated Press; George Condon, White House Correspondent, National Journal; Anders Gyllenhaal, Washington Editor and Vice President, the McClatchy Co.; Jonathan Wolman, Editor and Publisher, The Detroit News; and Susan Swain, Co-President, C-SPAN.

"During Greg's tenure the Denver Post has become the authoritative source for news in Colorado. While Greg will share the credit for this honor with his team, his leadership has set the expectation of excellence among the Post's newsroom. Our state has faced many difficult times this year and Greg has led coverage that has helped guide our readers during those events," said Ed Moss, President and CEO of the Denver Post and Executive Vice President of Digital First Media.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Greg. He has turned the Denver Post into a world-class news organization that embraces the digital future, and he's done that while dealing with severe economic headwinds in the industry. Greg's continued commitment to producing terrific investigative work and the Post's tremendous coverage of stories like the Colorado wildfires and the Aurora shootings are just a few of the many reasons he so richly deserves this award," said Jim Brady, Editor-in-Chief of Digital First Media.

Mr. Moore will be presented the award during the National Press Foundations 30th annual awards dinner on February 27, 2013 at the Washington Hilton Hotel.
