Harper Government Creates Jobs and Growth with Investment in Campbell River's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - CAMPBELL RIVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/18/12 -- Today, the Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the City of Campbell River under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see the City of Campbell River benefit from our Government's support for community spaces," said Minister Duncan. "This investment will help create jobs in Campbell River while ensuring a solid foundation for continued growth."
Federal funding of $225,350 will go towards improvements to the City of Campbell's Centennial Park. The project will upgrade the existing practice tennis court into a multi-purpose sport court and replace an aging play structure with a natural 'playscape'. A 'playscape' uses the natural contours of the landscape and incorporates natural elements such as boulders, logs, water, and a variety of plants to create a natural play environment.
"Centennial Park is a cornerstone of our community and a testament to the early days of Campbell River's development," stated Campbell River Mayor Walter Jakeway. "We are very pleased to have the funding support to make these improvements, which will help ensure enjoyment of Centennial Park for years to come."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
