Harper Government Supports Job Creation With Investment in Vancouver's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/18/12 -- Today, Andrew Saxton, Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board and for Western Economic Diversification, and Member of Parliament for North Vancouver, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Societe Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am proud to see Vancouver's francophone community benefit from our Government's commitment to investing in and renewing community facilities," said MP Saxton. "This investment will help create jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity in Vancouver now, and for years to come."
Federal funding of $31,776 will help the Societe Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver improve their facility while creating economic growth locally. Renovations will include rehabilitating exterior walls and upgrading the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system - therefore improving the building's efficiency and reducing energy consumption while offering staff, volunteers, and user groups a more comfortable experience.
"Our society is overjoyed that the Government of Canada recognizes the need of La Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver to upgrade our heating and ventilation system," stated Pierre Gallant, President of the Societe Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver. "This funding will not only benefit the francophone community in supporting its prosperity and growth, but will also help us to provide a warm and inviting gathering space, a place to create, and a place to connect."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
