Petition to Get Bikes on the Box Shifts Up A Gear
Over 7,500 signatures to online petition from Swinton Bikes as UK biking community says anyone but Clarkson for new bike show
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 12/18/12 -- Following its initial launch at the beginning of November, the petition initiated by to get a motorcycle TV programme on terrestrial TV has already collected well over 7,500 signatures in just over 3 weeks. As one of the UK's largest motorbike insurance brokers, Swinton Bikes is backing the biking community's demand to have a motorbike magazine show, aired on prime time BBC TV.
The petition follows the largest ever survey undertaken by the of almost 10,000 bikers, which categorically supported the launch of a motorbike equivalent of Top Gear on the box, with 93.2% saying yes to the idea.
In addition to the 'Get Bikes On The Beeb' petition, Swinton Bikes is now asking bikers and scooter riders to help work out the finer details of this proposed TV programme. Initial results suggest over a third (41.3%) would like to call the show 'Full Throttle', and over half (56.1%) want the theme music to be the classic 'Born to be Wild' written by Steppenwolf.
But when asked who they'd like as the main presenter a whopping 34% stated 'anyone but Jeremy Clarkson' indicating a preference for anyone but the opinionated Top Gear presenter to front the show. Celebrity biker Charley Boorman was the top named choice to take the presenter spot with 33.6% of those questioned voting for him with Ross Noble (15.4%) a close second and only 9.2% voting for a female presenter.
Anthony Aronin, head of Swinton Bikes said, "The response to our petition has been phenomenal so far and it just goes to show the real demand in the UK for a Top Gear equivalent for motorbikes. For anyone who hasn't yet signed our petition there is still time and we are encouraging every biker and scooter rider in the UK to get behind the campaign. Every signature gained could result in a motorbike TV programme being created for prime time viewing."
