Sporting Success for Lapland's Levi

The event at Levi is the northernmost Alpine Ski World Cup, with proceedings having been broadcast over the November weekend in 20 countries, reaching an estimated 230 million people. The competition makes a great watch for all the family and is far from a male-centric sport: this year involved an almost equal balance of 80 male athletes to 74 female. Although the event is now over, there are still plenty of reasons to visit Levi, a resort located in the Kittila region of Lapland.
One of Levi's many draws is those picturesque snowy scenes. During the summer months, mountain biking is popular, though come the winter, skiers and Christmas holidaymakers descend. During the race weekend there was over a metre of snow on the course, and these conditions can be enjoyed until well into 2013. Even if the UK remains snow-free this year, a trip to Levi will guarantee visitors a white Christmas.
