Nearly $60,000 Raised by Con-way Truckload for Annual Truckloads of Treasures Holiday Giving Campaign
Company Employees Participate in Target Shopping Spree Benefitting Local Children and Elderly in Need
(firmenpresse) - JOPLIN, MO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/07/12 -- Con-way Truckload, a full-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced that its employees raised nearly $60,000 in the company's 19th Annual Truckloads of Treasures holiday giving campaign.
More than 200 Con-way Truckload employees, family members and friends participated in a shopping spree last night at the Joplin Target store to purchase holiday gifts for local children and senior citizens in need. A Con-way Truckload tractor-trailer was present at the event to make the special deliveries to the Salvation Army. Some of the funds raised for this year's event were distributed ($3,000 each) to local charities, including: Boys & Girls Club, Area Agency on Aging, The Bridge, Pro Musica, House of Hope, Children's Haven, Camp Quality and Ronald McDonald House. The remainder was used to fund the shopping spree at Target.
"Con-way Truckload has been a huge blessing to House of Hope Joplin over the past four years. Their contributions have allowed us to be a part of the healing journey of hurting teens and the restoration of broken families," said Jen Black, executive director of House of Hope Joplin. "We always look forward to the Truckloads of Treasures shopping spree. It's our favorite event of the year."
To raise the necessary funds for Truckloads of Treasures, Con-way Truckload's executive management team and the company's Voices and Values Team donated several raffle prizes. Tickets were sold to Con-way Truckload employees in differing dollar amounts, depending on the raffle prize. This year's items included one week and two weeks off with pay; Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, Best Buy and Toys-R-Us gift cards in amounts ranging from $200 to $350; a roll of cash; a driver-made wooden toy truck and the Richard Petty Driving Experience, a $150 value.
"Con-way Truckload employees work hard every year to make Truckloads of Treasures possible and we are proud of their ongoing commitment to helping our community," said Saul Gonzalez, president of Con-way Truckload. "We are grateful to be in the position to support those in need and help make the holidays a bit brighter."
Since 1993, Truckloads of Treasures has presented more than $564,000 in employee-raised donations to local organizations through the program.
In addition to the Joplin shopping spree, each of the company's other terminal locations in West Memphis, Ark.; Taylor, Mich.; and Lancaster and Laredo, Texas, partnered with local organizations to provide holiday gifts and food for area children and senior citizens.
