(firmenpresse) - SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwire) -- 11/30/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for renovations to the offices of the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan (LDAS) under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"I am very happy to see Saskatchewan residents with learning disabilities benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,' said Minister Yelich. "By improving facilities such as this, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for the people of our province, and all Canadians."

Federal funding of $100,300 will enable LDAS to make extensive renovations to their building in Saskatoon. When completed, clients and staff of the LDAS will have a new kitchen, automatic door opener to the foyer, and three new washrooms that meet accessibility standards. Upgrades will also be made to electrical and mechanical systems. These renovations will significantly improve the quality of service LDAS can provide to its clients.

"LDAS is sincerely appreciative of this partnership with the Government of Canada," said Dale Rempel, Executive Director. "For a number of years, LDAS has been seeking to expand its office space to improve the services and programs we provide to persons with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder. We are very grateful for the CIIF funding as it will assist with the renovation of our building."

CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
