Minister Raitt commends South Coast Crewing Ltd. and International Union of Operating Engineers on Ratifying Collective Agreement
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/30/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated South Coast Crewing Ltd. and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 904 on ratifying a new collective agreement in Newfoundland and Labrador.
"I am very pleased that South Coast Crewing Ltd. and the IUOE worked together to reach a new agreement," said Minister Raitt. "Cooperative labour-management relations benefit the economic prosperity and, in this case, the security of Canadians."
The IUOE Local 904 represents a unit of approximately 10 engineers, deck hands and launch masters at South Coast Crewing Ltd. in Newfoundland and Labrador. The previous collective agreement expired on December 31, 2010.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
