Ivera Medical Corporation Announces FDA 510(k) Clearance for Curos Tips(TM) Passive Disinfection Device
(firmenpresse) - SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/29/12 -- , the creator of the , announced today that it has received 510(k) clearance to market Curos Tips™. Expanding the Ivera product suite, Curos Tips offer easy and effective disinfection of male luer connectors used in the administration of intravenous (IV) medication therapy for patients. Just as the original Curos cap uses 70% isopropyl alcohol to passively disinfect and protect needleless IV connectors, the new patent-pending Curos Tips may be used with male luer connections on intravenous access devices including IV tubing and syringes.
Touch or contact contamination of the male luer end of an IV set or syringe may lead to the introduction of bacterial organisms that may increase the patient's risk of infection. When Curos Tips are placed on male luers, Tips passively bathe the connector's surface with alcohol and, in three minutes, disinfect the device, killing those bacterial organisms. Thereafter, Curos Tips act to cover and protect the male luer. Curos Tips come in a convenient strip dispenser placing five disinfecting Tips in easy reach of the clinician at the point of care. The highly visible bright green Tips allow auditors to monitor caregiver disinfection practice compliance.
Bob Rogers, President of Ivera Medical, commented, "We are pleased to receive clearance from the FDA to market Curos Tips to healthcare providers seeking affordable tools which standardize and promote safer disinfection practices. Despite the known risks, unsafe practices do occur such as 'looping' the exposed end of IV tubing to a port on the same line and reusing sterile caps on syringes between medication pushes. Curos Tips provide a solution that makes it easier for time-strapped clinicians to do the right thing."
