INFORUM Presents, "30 Years Under the Influence: St. George's Tale of Liquid Courage"
(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/26/12 -- INFORUM announced today that it will host an event on Friday, Nov. 30th at St. George Spirits to celebrate the distillery's 30th anniversary. Guests will hear from three generations of Master Distillers including Jörg Rupf, founder of St. George Spirits, Lance Winters, St. George's current master distiller and resident evil genius, and St. George's youngest up-and-coming distiller, Dave Smith, in conversation with Bob Klein, proprietor of Oakland's beloved Oliveto Restaurant.
When Jörg Rupf founded St. George Spirits in 1982, he was a lone wolf making elegant eaux de vie in a wine cooler world. In those days absinthe was illegal, craft-produced American gins were unheard of, and there was no such thing as an American single malt whiskey. In the decades since, hundreds of new craft spirits producers have followed suit, proof positive that the spirits movement has officially gone the way of micro brewing and coffee roasting -- into the realm of the artisanal. Intrigued by the unknown and with a madcap approach to creation, the St. George team has inspired a modern spirits renaissance.
INFORUM will drink in some history during a one hour discussion with the godfathers of the artisanal distillation movement. Tickets also include a grand tour of St. George's incredible Alameda distillery, three unique cocktails -- each inspired by a decade of the distillery's existence -- as well as specialty hors d'oeuvres and an after party.
Distillers include:
Jörg Rupf is the owner and founder of St. George Spirits. Rupf comes from a family of respected brewmasters. His career as a distiller began when he left a legal post with the Ministry of Culture in Munich to attend U.C. Berkeley to do post-doctoral work. Instead, he founded California's first boutique distillery.
Lance Winters is the master distiller at St. George Spirits and has been distilling fine spirits for 15 years, from vodka and whiskey, to eau de vie and now liqueur. His unique talent is in possessing both the craft-distilling technical expertise and the artistry with flavor to produce truly extraordinary spirits.
Dave Smith is one of St. George's expert distillers, responsible for creating some of the more esoteric and unusual spirits commercially viable, such as the distillery's "super bourbon," Breaking and Entering. He draws upon the winemaking traditions of his family as well as his writing background to inform the St. George creative process.
Bob Klein, proprietor and co-owner of Oliveto Restaurant, has been a broadcast television producer, executive producer, national program consultant, and developer/syndicator. He's also the founder of Community Grains, a line of whole-grain dried pasta, flour and polenta made from California-grown grains.
