According to a report from the National Research Council Committee on the USACE Water Resources, Engineering and Planning, 52% of all USACE hydroelectric plants are past their 50-year designed service lifespan, well past due for major refurbishments, rehabilitation and modernization. The report also said that additional federal funding for these facilities to remain operational will be needed in the future. The USACE operates 75 power plants with a total rated generation capacity of 20,500 megawatts.
