Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Castlegar's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - CASTLEGAR, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/16/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the Castlegar and District Public Library, under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"I am very happy to see Castlegar benefit from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund," said Minister Yelich. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come."
With the $14,118 in funding announced today, the City of Castlegar will make upgrades to the Castlegar and District Public Library's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. As a result, the library will benefit from modern, reliable components that help improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption, and its patrons will benefit from a controlled and comfortable environment.
"We are very pleased that the Harper Government is investing in our community library's heating and ventilation system. We will see benefits in lowering the building's heating costs and increased comfort for our library users," said Castlegar Mayor Lawrence Chernoff.
"It's great to see an important community asset being further developed through this program," said Garry Merkel, Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) Board Chair. "This was a unique opportunity for CBT to provide matching grants to help communities leverage federal funding to improve infrastructure in our region."
Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) is providing $6,750 toward this project, 50 per cent of the community's required portion.
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
