Worldwides first Bluetooth Smart Modules which can transfer serial data
Right on time for electronica 2012, connectBlue is presenting the first Bluetooth smart modules in the world that can also transfer serial data. The new products, OLS425 and OLS426, achieve data transfer rates of up to 56 kbps and are extremely simple to configure.
(firmenpresse) - The SPP (serial port profile) is intended in principle for the transfer of serial data using conventional Bluetooth technology. However, the requirements of this profile cannot be met with the Bluetooth Smart Standard (Bluetooth Low Energy) which is designed for low energy consumption. This is why current Bluetooth smart hardware is typically not equipped with SPP, so it does not support serial data communication associated with this profile.
Now connectBlue is closing this gap with the “Low Energy Serial Port Service”. The new technology also makes Bluetooth smart devices able to transfer serial data. As the first development with the “Low Energy Serial Port Service”, connectBlue has presented the Bluetooth smart modules OLS425 and OLS426. The Bluetooth 4.0 SMARTready dual-mode module OBS421, which is already available, can be upgraded accordingly with new firmware.
AT commands make configuring the new OLS425 and OLS426 Bluetooth adapters extremely straightforward. In contrast to many competition products, the user does not have to deal with elaborate scripting languages or embedded programming in this context. Both products support data transfer rates of up to 56 kbps and are cable of bridging open air distances of up to 200m. The operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.
In regards to its dimensions and connections, the OLS426 module is backwards compatible with connectBlue products with Bluetooth and/or WLAN technology. However, this does not apply to the OLS425 module. Its new circuit board in the mini format (15x22 mm) was presented with the new OLP425 module series just a few weeks ago. Samples and production quantities of OLS425 and OLS426 are now available from SE Spezial-Electronic.
