Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Lumby's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - LUMBY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/14/12 -- Today, Colin Mayes, Member of Parliament for Okanagan-Shuwap, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for upgrades to the White Valley Community Centre under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is committed to strengthening our communities and, with today's announcement, I am proud to see Lumby benefit," said MP Mayes. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come."
With the $69,915 in federal funding announced today, the Corporation of the Village of Lumby will be able to upgrade the White Valley Community Centre's lighting and repair its roof. The result will be an improved and safer facility that will continue to benefit the residents of Lumby.
"The White Valley Community Centre is a key recreation destination in Lumby and the surrounding White Valley area, and it is our recreation facilities that are paramount to maintaining health and the high quality of living in our community" said Village of Lumby Mayor, Kevin Acton. "Maintaining these assets can be challenging with a smaller population, so we really appreciate funding opportunities such as the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
