Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Duncan's Community Infrastructure
(firmenpresse) - DUNCAN, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/14/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $89,850 in federal funding for improvements to the Cowichan Sportsplex's fitness circuit, under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government, through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, is continuing to support communities all across Canada," said Minister Yelich. "This project will create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in Duncan and the surrounding area."
With the funding being provided today, the Chesterfield Sports Society, the society that manages and maintains the Sportsplex, will be able to make improvements to the Sportsplex's fitness circuit. Planned improvements include the installation of a rubber pathway, fitness stations, benches, picnic tables and more. These improvements will provide even more options for visitors who want to take advantage of an active and healthy lifestyle.
"These matching federal funds effectively double our community fundraising efforts bringing more fitness possibilities to folks who prefer to exercise in a natural setting or who may not be able to afford going to a gym, "said Don McClintock, President of the Chesterfield Sports Society. "This is a very exciting opportunity for our community and for the Sportsplex."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
