ETI SWARM Runtime Software Expands Platform Coverage to Enable Efficient Application Development on Intel(R) Xeon Phi(TM) Coprocessors

(firmenpresse) - SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- (Marketwire) -- 11/14/12 -- ET International, Inc. (ETI), a leading provider of high-performance system software solutions and customized performance acceleration services for heterogeneous and multi-core/many-core architectures, today announced ETI SWARM technology is supporting the Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessor.

The Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor, based on Intel® Many Integrated Core (MIC) architecture, offers a combination of leading performance efficiency and friendly programming model, allowing developers to achieve great performance at low energy and time cost associated with optimizing applications while taking full advantage of new technology features.

"Adding ETI SWARM to the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor software ecosystem will enable developers to benefit from the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors and Intel Xeon® processors to maximize application performance," said Paresh Pattani, director for data center computing at Intel.

"ETI values the continued strong relationship with Intel and welcome the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor to our family of supported platforms," said Rich Collier, Chief Operating Officer at ETI.

ETI SWARM is a full function parallel computing framework to deliver superior performance through advances in both and . ETI SWARM exploits innovative methods of dynamic adaptive resource management and task scheduling to make best use of runtime information for guided control and allocation of heterogeneous resources achieving superior utilization of all system components. ETI SWARM's unique methods expose and exploit a wider array of application parallelism for increased throughput and reduced time to solution by the elimination of many global barriers and enabling applications to self adapt to changing demand and system capabilities.

ETI SWARM, which previously has been demonstrated on multi-core, multi-node, multi-GPU platforms, has been extended to support the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor.

"ETI SWARM enables developers express more parallelism with less synchronization than OpenMP, OpenCL, or MPI. On many-core devices such as the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor, this results in large performance improvements because synchronizing hundreds of threads incurs significant overhead," said Dr. Rishi Khan, vice president of R&D at ETI. "Support for Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors will expand our heterogeneous portfolio of supported platforms enabling unprecedented execution efficiency and scalability by leveraging each specialized device to focus on the execution patterns it handles best."

ETI is showing a workload demo of ETI SWARM on Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors at SC12 in ETI booth #2214 during the exhibition and will have a theater presentation at Intel booth #2601 on Wednesday, November 14, 5:25pm-5:40pm MT.

E.T. International, Inc. (ETI) provides breakthrough high-performance system software solutions with its SWARM technology and Software Performance Acceleration Services. ETI's SWARM and services are designed specifically to optimize the performance of advanced multi-core/many-core and heterogeneous computing systems that span from embedded platforms to large-scale supercomputers for computationally intensive scientific research and business applications. Built on a decade of massively parallel programming research for extreme-scale computing systems for the US government, ETI is presently serving customers in the energy, defense, semiconductor, and financial markets with solutions that increase computing performance and efficiency so that users and businesses fully benefit from the power of multi-core/many-core architectures.
