Dr. Skip Triplett Elected Chair of Board of Governance at University Canada West
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- University Canada West (UCW) recently elected Dr. L.E. "Skip" Triplett as the Chair of the Board of Governance. The UCW Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the institution. In order to provide independent oversight and to better mirror the public system the Board has implemented a new system elect a Chair from among its external members, who comprise the majority of Board membership.
Upon accepting the position, Dr. Triplett said, "I am honoured to be UCW's first elected Chair and I look forward to working with my Board colleagues, the University's President and its Academic Council. We are all inspired by the vision of a career-focused, teaching university that equals the excellence of BC's public universities - with competitive tuition but without taxpayer subsidies."
Dr. Triplett has extensive experience in the education industry. He was two-term president of Kwantlen University College and has extensive board experience with the International Association of New Generation Universities, the Trades Training Consortium of BC, the BC Post Secondary Employers Association, the Surrey Board of Trade, the White Rock Hospice Society, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and DiverCity (two Metro-Vancouver based multi-cultural social services societies), the White Rock Millennium Rotary Club and the South Coast BC Transportation Authority's (TransLink) inaugural non-political Board. He was a member of the City of Richmond's Economic Development Committee and a member of the Regional Advisory Committee to the Tsawwassen First Nation treaty negotiations.
University Canada West is Canada's contemporary independent university. Established in 2004, UCW offers programs at their Vancouver campus and Online. Programs include the Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce, and the Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications.
UCW is recognized and operates under the authority of the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development on the recommendation of the Degree Quality Assessment Board. The University's programs are offered under the written consent of the Minister of Advanced Education, Government of British Columbia, Canada having undergone a quality assessment process and been found to meet the criteria established by the minister.
