Minister of State Bernier Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/12/12 -- The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), made the following statement to mark the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012, which takes place from November 12 to 18:
"Global Entrepreneurship Week inspires millions of young people around the world to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity through entrepreneurship.
"Throughout the week, we celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of Canada's many entrepreneurs. Small business owners are the engine of our economy, driving economic growth, creating jobs and building long-term prosperity.
"As a part of our efforts to support Canada's entrepreneurs, our Government recently announced a Red Tape Reduction Action Plan. This plan commits to reducing onerous duplication among government departments, introducing service standards for high-volume licences and permits, and harmonizing cross-border trade.
"This plan, along with other measures in Economic Action Plan 2012, is generating results. Canada has the lowest overall tax rate on new business investment among the G7 countries, and the International Monetary Fund and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development have predicted that we will have the strongest economic growth in the G7 in 2012.
"Small businesses make up nearly 98 percent of all companies in Canada, and our Government is committed to making it easier for them to succeed by keeping taxes low, cutting red tape and increasing Canadian exports to new markets.
"I would like to thank the Canadian Youth Business Foundation, which is the official host of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 events in Canada.
"In closing, I invite all Canadians to join me this week in not only honouring our entrepreneurs, but also finding ways to inspire others to pursue their passion for entrepreneurship."
