According to the report, the Uticah shale likely has roughly 38 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, as well as 940 million barrels of oil. Experts have noted that, if anything, these figures represent conservative estimates.
One of the report's most significant characteristics, however, is its mention of the horizontal drilling and fracturing techniques that are used to release these energy supplies from shale reserves. As some commentators have noted, the presence of these natural gas and oil reserves are not new; what is new is the technology that allows energy professionals to release and develop this energy.
