Minister Toews Statement on Two Arrests From "Wanted by the CBSA" List

ID: 1167845

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/06/12 -- Public Safety Minister Vic Toews made a statement today on two recent arrests from the "Wanted by the CBSA" list. Saeed Ibrahim Jama was apprehended on October 31 by Edmonton Police Service Specialized Traffic Apprehension Team during a routine traffic stop, and Freddy Roland Crawford Venegas, was apprehended November 1 in Toronto by CBSA Inland Enforcement.

"Mr. Jama is inadmissible to Canada for serious criminality for being convicted of obstructing and resisting a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Mr. Crawford Venegas is inadmissible for failure to comply with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

These arrests clearly underscore our government's ongoing commitment to protecting Canadians and the safety of our communities. The continued success of the "Wanted by the CBSA" program demonstrates that Canada will not be a haven for those who try to enter or live here illegally, or who have broken the law and endangered the safety of our citizens. This government will continue to identify, detain and remove individuals who pose a threat to the safety and security of Canadians."

This brings to 34 the total number of apprehensions from the "Wanted by the CBSA" list, launched in July 2011, with 21 individuals having since been removed from Canada, and five located abroad.
