Minister Toews Commends CBSA on Significant Drug Seizure
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/05/12 -- Public Safety Minister Vic Toews commended the efforts of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on today's announcement of a significant seizure of heroin. A package containing an estimated 22 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated value of $8.8 million, was seized at Pearson International Airport on October 30, 2012 and turned over to the Peel Regional Police.
"I cannot overemphasize the benefit to Canadian families and communities that results from removing these drugs from our streets. The production and trafficking of illicit drugs is one of the root causes of violent crime," said Minister Toews. "Our government commends the efforts of the CBSA, whose vigilance prevented this dangerous substance from taking its toll on our citizens.
This government will continue to work with law enforcement partners nationally and internationally to address the global drug problem. We are committed to fighting crime and protecting Canadians so that our communities are safe places for people to live, raise their families and do business."
