NEP Solar?s technology powers the Swiss Solar Award 2012 winning solar thermal plant realized by ewz and Lataria Engiadinaisa SA
ewz and Lataria Engiadinaisa SA (LESA) won the Swiss Solar Award 2012 in the category "plants" ("Anlagen") / The concentrating solar thermal plant, using four PolyTrough 1200 collectors manufactured by NEP Solar AG, supplies steam to LESA
(PresseBox) - Built on the rooftop of the highest-located dairy factory in Europe, the four NEP Solar PolyTrough 1200 parabolic collectors, with a total aperture area of 115 m², deliver steam for milk processing. The plant is already operating reliably for almost a year under harsh environmental conditions such as snow and temperatures as low as minus 30°C. The system proves the potential of the technology in the alpine region.
The high temperature system is expected to produce sufficient heat to replace 7000 liters of fossil fuel with an equivalent CO2 reduction of 18 Tons.
ewz planned, financed, built and operates the solar thermal plant. Through an energy services arrangement ewz sells the heat to LESA. The project was supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.
The innovative plant, first of its kind in Switzerland, was honored with the 22nd Swiss Solar Award in the category "Plants". The winning projects are selected by the Swiss Solar Agency (Solar Agentur Schweiz).
