Minister Kenney Commends Canada Border Services Agency on Immigration Fraud Conviction
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/30/12 -- The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, made the following statement on the sentence issued by a Winnipeg Provincial Court Judge to Bradley Jacobson, a former immigration consultant in Winnipeg. Mr. Jacobson pled guilty to three offences under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and three offences under the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to four years and six months in prison and ordered to pay more than $380,000 in restitution and to forfeit seized evidence:
"Our Government will not tolerate the deliberate abuse of Canada's immigration system. We commend the Canada Border Services Agency on the diligent work that led to this conviction. Canada's immigration system is generous, but we will not allow fraudsters to victimize vulnerable individuals or take advantage of our country's laws. Our Government is committed to catching and punishing unscrupulous immigration consultants."
