NCSBN's Maryann Alexander Inducted Into the American Academy of Nursing
(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 10/29/12 -- Maryann Alexander, PhD, RN, chief officer, Nursing Regulation, National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN®), , was formally inducted into the American Academy of Nursing as one of the 2012 Fellows on Oct. 13, 2012, during the Academy's 39th Annual Meeting and Conference in Washington, D.C.
Alexander was nominated for this honor by two current Academy Fellows and was selected by the Academy's 18-member Fellow Selection Committee for her outstanding achievements in the nursing profession. The American Academy of Nursing, , anticipates and tracks national and international trends in health care, while addressing resulting issues of health care knowledge and policy. The Academy's mission is to serve the public and nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis and dissemination of nursing knowledge. With the Academy's induction of 158 United States Fellows and 17 International Fellows in October, membership totals 2,068.
Alexander comments, "I am thrilled to be honored with this prestigious group of nurse leaders. I look forward to supporting the work of the Academy and lending my expertise when needed."
In her capacity as chief officer, Nursing Regulation at NCSBN, Alexander oversees all activities related to research, education, practice, licensure and discipline. She is also the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Nursing Regulation. Prior to her tenure at NCSBN she served as the executive director of the Illinois Board of Nursing. She was also a clinical nurse specialist at Rush University Medical Center where she held a faculty appointment as an assistant professor in the college of nursing. Alexander received her BS and MS in nursing from Northwestern University and her PhD in Health Policy from the University of Illinois. She has authored articles and book chapters; has won several research awards; was the recipient of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) policy internship; and has given numerous presentations locally, nationally and internationally.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose members include the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories -- American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. There are also 12 associate members.
Mission: NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.
