Articling Debate Deferred to November 22

ID: 1164133

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/25/12 -- After vigorous debate, the Law Society's governing body, Convocation, today unanimously agreed to defer a decision regarding a pilot project for the transitional training component of the lawyer licensing process, as outlined in the Articling Task Force's final report, .

A report prepared by a minority group of the Articling Task Force, (see page 70) was also presented.

Convocation came to this decision today following robust and informed discussion and, most importantly, the democratic process. There is wide-spread agreement that change is necessary: the question of just how to achieve that is complex.

Convocation will debate and vote on the majority and minority motions put forward in both the reports on November 22, 2012, to determine the best way forward.

The Law Society regulates in Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society has a mandate to protect the public interest, to maintain and advance the cause of justice and the rule of law, to facilitate access to justice for the people of Ontario and act in a timely, open and efficient manner.
