Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) Wins Prestigious 2012 Canadian Recognizing Learning Award
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/23/12 -- On October 22, 2012 at the opening plenary of the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment's (CAPLA) Recognizing Learning Conference in Halifax, CCPA's National Entry-to-Practice Counselling Assessment Project was awarded a prestigious 2012 Canadian Recognizing Learning Award. The Recognizing Learning Awards recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of prior learning assessment and qualification recognition.
The National Assessment Project is funded by the Government of Canada's Foreign Recognition Program and sponsored by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. The project is a bilingual, computer-based, simulation-style assessment that can be taken online at multiple test centres around the world. Its purpose is to promote the ease of migration and increase acknowledgement of competency areas for foreign-trained, alternatively trained, and domestically trained counselling professionals and to aid in their mobility across Canada.
CCPA President, Dr. Lorna Martin, received the award on behalf of CCPA and the pan-Canadian team of test developers. She stated that "This is a tremendous honour for CCPA. Counselling professionals from across Canada and around the world need ways to show the public, employers and regulatory colleges in our provinces and territories that they have met established quality standards of practice. The national standard assessment along with regulatory requirements gives this assurance. For CAPLA to recognize our work in this area is incredibly encouraging."
The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association was founded in 1965 and is the national professional voluntary association providing leadership to counsellors and psychotherapists in all areas of practice. CCPA's more than 4,500 members are active in many locations across Canada, including hospitals, community agencies, schools, private practice, penitentiaries, long-term care facilities, academia and industry.
