Ending Era of Password Sprawl and Reducing Identity Theft and Fraud

(firmenpresse) - SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/23/12 -- EyeVerify today launched the first 'eyeprint' solution for mobile users to verify their digital identity while easily and securely accessing highly personal information on the web with just a glance. The patented technology is a major advancement in biometrics authentication and is the only mobile solution that uses built-in cameras within smart devices to image and pattern match the unique veins in users' whites of the eyes, ensuring highly accurate, fast and convenient security for mobile transactions.

Mobile devices are increasingly becoming the standard for how we manage our work and personal lives, potentially exposing ourselves to identity theft and fraud. According to Aberdeen Group, there were $221B in identity-related crimes reported in 2011.(1) The "average" user today manages over 25 online accounts, plaguing consumers with the battle of 'password sprawl.'

Complex passwords and multiple user names no longer cut it -- they're not secure, there are too many, and these types of passwords are no longer a viable method for digitally proving we are who we say we are. Other authentication technologies (fingerprint, Iris, keyfob tokens) may offer comparable accuracy but they require additional hardware and expense.

"Similar to how fingerprints historically were the standard in identifying individuals, EyeVerify is the first and only mobile authentication solution leveraging the uniqueness of eye vein patterns to obtain a person's 'eyeprint,'" said Toby Rush, CEO EyeVerify. "This new method is redefining standards for simple, yet secure authentication for personal or business use leveraging existing mobile devices without requiring additional hardware."

The company's patented vascular technology leverages built-in cameras in mobile devices to image and pattern match the blood vessels in users' whites of the eyes with just a glance for highly accurate, fast and convenient mobile identity protection.

To learn more about EyeVerify, attend the "Security in the Mobile Space" panel on Thursday at 9am at this week's . Thursday's discussion includes mobile security experts from Samsung, IBM, Lookout and EyeVerify and will focus on issues related to security in today's ever-changing mobile environment.

EyeVerify's Chief Scientist and eyeprint visionary, Dr. Reza Derakhshani, saw early on that fingerprint authentication was not sophisticated enough for the simplicity and ease of usability that is necessary with mobile phones. "We needed a mobile identity verification that didn't require additional hardware."

"With the explosion of social media, we're exposing our faces everyday across the web," said Dr. Arun Ross, Associate Professor at West Virginia University and a leader in biometric research. "Vasculature authentication assures mobile users with the privacy they're looking without giving up their face or fingerprint image."

Dr. Ross added that the applications for eyeprint technology are limitless, "Eye vein biometrics can potentially be used for applications such as mobile banking, enterprise security and healthcare. The ubiquity of smartphones can make eyeprint technology accessible to individuals across the world."

EyeVerify's eyeprint technology is currently in beta test on the iOS and Android mobile platforms, and will be available for general release in early 2013

EyeVerify offers accurate, simple and secure mobile identity protection and access to highly personal information with just a glance using existing smartphones. EyeVerify's patented vascular 'eyeprint' solution uses built-in cameras in today's mobile devices to image and then pattern match blood vessels in the whites of users' eyes, ensuring highly accurate, fast and convenient mobile, digital identity protection, without requiring additional hardware for businesses or end users.
