Active Broadband Networks Extends Broadband Service Management to DSL Networks
RADIUS Data Collection and Policy Control Enable Usage-Based Services Over DSL
(firmenpresse) - FRAMINGHAM, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/22/12 -- , an innovative supplier of next-generation operational support systems (OSS) for broadband providers, today announced that it has extended the capabilities of its (DBSM) to DSL networks by adding support for RADIUS-based data collection and policy control. The DBSM combines usage data collection, mediation and big data storage with policy-based service management in an integrated, modular platform. With RADIUS support, DSL network operators will be able to measure, manage and monetize rapidly increasing broadband consumption.
"DSL vectoring and pair bonding for residential subscribers are accelerating DSL connections to speeds that rival DOCSIS networks, and as a result DSL networks are facing the same increasing usage pressures," said Adam Dunstan, president and CEO, Active Broadband Networks. "Recognizing this opportunity, Active Broadband has enhanced the capabilities of its core Dynamic Broadband Service Manager platform to enable the delivery of usage-based, user-managed services over DSL."
The DBSM's software integrates data collection, mediation and storage with dynamic policy control, using RADIUS accounting messages to collect usage data streamed from the network, and RADIUS Change of Authorization (CoA) messages to apply service management policies to DSL service gateways. DSL operators can now effectively measure usage for service and capacity planning, implement usage-based service and traffic management policies and monetize transaction-oriented, user-managed services leveraging dynamic service activation and control.
"With more than 300 million subscribers worldwide, DSL has the largest penetration for last-mile wired broadband access, and is continuing to capture more broadband connections," said Deb Osswald, Research Vice President of the Communications Service Provider (CSP) Operations program at IDC. "With consumers accessing increasingly rich media content over broadband, DSL providers need better ways to manage and monetize that usage, and Active Broadband is targeting an important, growing market opportunity."
